Hike Categories​​

Generally flat or gently rolling; occasional short steeper uphill or downhill climbs. Terrain is unlevel and may be rocky in areas. These hikes are at a slow pace of 1.5 to 2 mph moving rate. Regular brief rest stops will be made during the hike.
Multiple up and down grades up to 500 ft.+ climbs over a two plus hour time period at a pace of 2 mph moving rate depending a lot on the terrain. Terrain is unlevel and may be rocky in areas. Regular, brief rest stops will be made during the hike.​​

Slow  2-4 miles

Slow Intermediate  3-5 miles


These hikes may be scheduled on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays. They typically start at 7 AM June–August; 8 AM April–May and September-October; and at 9 AM November–March, however the time may be changed at the discretion of the hike leader. There is a hike scheduled every Tuesday that will begin at Lynx Lake North Shore parking lot and typically lasts 2-3 hours. If the number of hikers is large and hike facilitators are available, the group often divides up into two or more groups with one using the slowest pace.

The Slow/Slow Intermediate and Slow Plus hikes held on Thursdays and Saturdays are scheduled as hike leaders are available and will be described in the weekly emails – including approximate distance, elevation gain, terrain, meeting location and start time. These hikes may last longer than 2-3 hours, especially if scheduled out of town.​​​​​
Normally up to 2500 ft elevation gain at a steady pace of 2.25-3.0 mph moving rate. Terrain is unlevel and may be rocky in areas. Breaks typically occur at the midpoint of the hike. Pace and number of stops may be determined by the make-up of the hikers attending.
Elevation gain and pace to be determined by the leader; e.g. roughly 10+ miles with substantial elevation gain at a steady brisk pace @ 3 mph moving rate​​​

Strenuous  10+ miles
