The TH is RIGHT after the 5 mile marker.  6-7 miles, 1300 ft. gain. Smith Ravine is an in-and out hike. It is almost all uphill for just over 3 miles and the return is largely downhill. A great workout but since it will be HOT, hikers will be encouraged to go at your own pace and meet at the top where the break will take place. There is a spur there for those wishing a nice view that adds about .6 miles to the 6 mile normal length. Bring lots of water!

Moderate- 7 AM -  Woodchute - 7:00:00 AM to carpool; 7:30 at TH, Contact: Sarah Mahler, 305-389-8688. Leader will be at the TH at 7:30. Anyone wishing to carpool should meet on Coyote Springs Road parking area just north of 89A and drive to TH from there. To get to the Woodchute trailhead, drive to the top of Mingus Mountain on 89A and make a left towards Potato Patch campground. Take another left at the trail sign (before campground) and drive to the end of the Forest Road (dirt and a bit bumpy) to the Woodchute #102 trailhead. 7 miles; 1,000 ft. gain pace will be steady but not to exceed 2.8 especially on uphill. This is an in and out hike to a nice view point of Jerome and the Verde Valley. This trail undulates along the ridge the first 1.5-2 miles and then about 1 mile of steep and very rocky to the plateau and another 1/2 mile to the view point and return. Break is at view point. Much of the trail is exposed so bring a lot of water.

Each participant in any of these hikes assumes total responsibility for his or her own safety and well being.

Driver reimbursements amounts follow: 5 cents/mile when gas is under $2.50,   7 cents/mile when gas is between $2.50-3.00, and 10 cents/mile when gas is between $3.00-4.00 and 15 cents/mile when gas is over $4.00.  Because prices vary among stations, the Costco regular gas price is the benchmark.  Each driver is responsible for recording the trip distance.
